In response to question #4...

I have never blogged before today, so bare with me:
If Pink's thinking is correct, we as educators are going to be faced with finding ways to reach R-Directed thinking students. This will be challenging to those of us who have been teaching for many years to a mostly L-Directed student body. We will need to come up with strategies and techniques which will help us reach or even direct students to be more R-directed. Perhaps we will need to become more metaphorical or contextual in our teaching methods. Try to teach a whole picture rather than a single concept or standard?? I guess this would also require a "rewiring" of our own ways of thinking.

  1. Hi, I too am new in the blogg world.
In response to Brads posting about question #4, I agree that for many of us who have been teaching for many years, it will be a challenge coming up with ways to approch the R-Directed student. Maybe by catoring to their sense of art we will be able to find new methods or ideas to reach these students. I know in my grade, visuals are very important in pulling in the students creativity.

  2. Brad and Sheila,
You two are naturals here in the blogosphere. Keep it up to promote sharing of thoughts.
You are right, if Pink is correct, we as educators are going to be challenge more than before with finding ways to reach R-Directed thinking students. This will be harder to those who have been teaching for many years to a mostly L-Directed student body. Therefore lets propose that TN allow teachers to retire at 25 years of service and get a new crop of recently trained R-Directed teachers. Although I think Pink would have it happen, fortunately or unfortunately that is not going to happen. Teachers are going to have to be more aware of strategies and techniques which will help us reach or even direct students to be more R-directed. I think our teaching methods are constantly, but not suddenly, changing . I think that your "whole picture" vs. "single concept or standard" teaching is happening now. In the lower grade levels there seems to be the latter and in higher grade levels there is more of the former.
    Thanks for the thoughts.
